Northwestern Polytechnic University and Merritt College Form a Credit Transfer Agreement

Northwestern Polytechnic University (NPU) and Merritt College (MC) recently signed a credit transfer agreement that will allow students to apply up to 70 general education units from their associate degree program toward NPU’s Bachelor of Science requirements programs in Computer Science and Business Administration.

The articulation agreement allows for the easy transfer of credits between the two institutions and shortens the degree completion time for students interested in earning a Bachelor of Science at NPU. The agreement was signed by Northwestern Polytechnic University President Peter Hsieh and Merritt College Board of Trustees Chairwoman Susan Lamb.

“Our new credit-transfer agreement with Merritt College is one more way we are meeting the educational needs of the East Bay community,” said President Hsieh. “The agreement will not only open doors for community college students interested in earning a bachelor’s degree but also underscores our commitment to helping residents achieve success.”

The credit transfer agreement is effective immediately and allows for NPU students to apply up to 70 general education units from their associate degree program toward the requirements for NPU’s Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) or Business Administration (BSBA). Thus, students who study at Merritt College can pursue their bachelor’s degree in either one of these programs at Northwestern Polytechnic University without completing general education courses already included in the transfer credits.

“Our mission at Merritt College is to prepare students for transfer and success in the baccalaureate degree,” said President Robert A. Adams of Merritt College. “We are pleased to partner with NPU to provide our students with a seamless pathway that will benefit their future academic plan.”

NPU’s Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Business Administration programs offer a pathway to employment in the technology and business sectors. The BSCS program teaches students how to design, build and manage applications and systems. In contrast, the BSBA program provides essential skills for planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating business operations at small companies or larger organizations.
