Working freelance is one of the best lifestyle choices you can make. There are even companies now like Shiftsmart that support people who are working freelance and connect them with employers.
And while choosing a freelance setup is a great move, you have to approach it the right way to get the best out of it. On that note, here are some tips for new freelancers everywhere.
Home and Away
If you decide that your home is going to be both your place of work and rest, you may end up getting tired of the place and develop cabin fever. Mix it up by going out every so often, whether it be a short walk to the nearest park, some errands at the grocery, or even window shopping at the mall.
Setting Your Hours
Whether you feel that you are more productive late in the evening, or you really like to get up and smash through the work early in the morning, working freelance affords you the freedom to set your hours. When you work during the day is, of course, entirely up to you, but what you should look to do is still set some hours for you to stick to. Even with the freedom you can get from freelancing, it is vital that you have some level of structure.
Having a Workspace
Setting up a space conducive to working is essential. It is where you will get things done. If you don’t do this, then chances are you’ll either be too relaxed and sleepy to work or too distracted to be productive.
There is also a temptation to work from home in your comfy clothes, but this again doesn’t help when it comes to productivity. Like I mentioned earlier, being too relaxed is a pitfall you have to avoid. What I can suggest is to wear office clothes at least once or twice a week, just to get yourself in the mood.
